Gaming Console Chips Made by Nvidia and MediaTek Can Beat AMD?

AMD has so far dominated the market share for gaming console chips. Many famous gaming console products, such as PS5, Xbox, Steam Deck and ROG Ally use its chips. However, the latest news says that 2 other big players in the semiconductor industry, namely Nvidia and MediaTek, are preparing new competitors in the system- on- chip( SoC) realm for handheld gaming features. This rumor comes from a leaker through a post on the X social media account (formerly known as Twitter) with the handle XpeaGPU, which mentions that Mediatek is working on a chip for gaming consoles with Nvidia's graphics processing unit (GPU).

“Jensen (Nvidia's CEO) is frustrated with Nintendo and thinks there is a good market opportunity,” XpeaGPU tweeted in its post. Nintendo decided to use Nvidia's Tegra chips in its Switch console, but the Japanese manufacturer tends to be slow in bringing new products to market. The Switch 2, for example, is rumored to be released next year.

XpeaGPU also said that some clients from China (CN) are already showing attention to prospective gaming SoCs from Nvidia and MediaTek. The chip products are said to be made by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) with 3 nm node technology starting in mid-2025. However, MediaTek and Nvidia will reportedly formally announce their cooperation in the development of this gaming SoC at the Computex 2024 event in Taipei, Taiwan, in early June.

Different from AMD's SoCs based on the x86 architecture, MediaTek and Nvidia's chips are likely to use the ARM architecture, it is also possible that the device will implement the Windows operating system considering that it has recently been more maximized.
