Flashback using Google Earth's new feature to 80 years ago
You must have seen the contents of our planet with the Google Earth application. With this application we can see all the places, buildings, streets, and locations on earth.
Google Earth has just gotten the latest update, which provides several databases of historical imagery that can show the situation in an area more than 80 years ago.
The image below shows the city of Jakarta in the past (left image), while the right image is the current condition of Jakarta. It can be seen that there are differences that occur in the picture.
The most striking is the amount of brown and green vacant land in the past and now tends to be more dominated by the color gray which indicates the number of buildings. Some street routes are also seen to be getting more and more closed.
It should be noted that the historical imagery produced by Google Earth is only available for a few regions. Google does not mention which regions can be viewed more than 80 years back.
To access a number of these new features, users can directly visit Google Earth services on the web to smartphones. However, the historical imagery can only be accessed in the Google Earth Pro application for PC only.
