IKN implements smart city concept, Garuda Palace becomes Smart Building Benchmark

President Jokowi stated in his speech that IKN is not only designed to be the center of government, but also acts as a Forest City. The purpose of Forest City itself is a city that does not only contain skyscrapers of concrete and glass, but Forest City is a city that is integrated with nature where the city will be surrounded by beautiful forests. This concept can create a balance between infrastructure progress and also at the same time preserve nature, expand green space and also maintain the surrounding flora and fauna ecosystem.

In addition to being a Forest City, IKN also carries the Smart City concept. This means that all aspects of life in IKN will be supported by advanced technology such as increasing the efficiency of city operations, improving the quality of life of the community, and development. The sectors covered by IKN technology include energy, water, transportation, and waste management in order to create a beautiful city, but still responsive and efficient.

The most highlighted indicator is the air quality in IKN. At the time of the meeting, the AQI (Air Quality Index) scored 6, which is far below the safe limit of 50.

Smart Building: Garuda Palace as Benchmark

Talking about IKN is certainly closely related to a building, namely the Garuda Palace. According to Danis Sumadilaga, Chairman of the Task Force for the Implementation of IKN Infrastructure Development from the Ministry of PUPR RI, the architectural design of the Garuda Palace does not only aim to make the shape of the Garuda bird, but this design aims to make the air inside the room feel cooler than the air outside. With this, the need for artificial cooling (AC) will be reduced and will certainly save electricity usage.

And not only that, Garuda Palace also uses District Cooling for its cooling system. District Cooling is a centralized cooling system that distributes cold water from a central location to other building locations. This makes greater energy efficiency than individual systems.

These applications have made Garuda Palace claimed as a benchmark for Smart Building in Indonesia that can combine design and technology to create a versatile building.
