"Likes" Activity on X (Twitter) Becomes Private, Elon Musk Prioritizes User Privacy
Social media X, which used to have the name Twitter, has several features such as Post (Tweet), Repost (Retweet/RT), and Likes. Reposts and Likes used to have the same function as there was no significant difference between the two.
Although both functions are intended for different purposes, many people use reposts to save content they like. In addition, if a user likes a post by pressing the heart icon, the activity will be visible on the homepage of other users, just like Repost.
Liking a content is actually private, it will be a problem if other people can see our activities. Therefore, X Engineering's official account made a change where other people can no longer see other users' Likes, but the account owner can still see it.
Post creators will still get notifications and will also be able to see the number of Likes they get, but the details will not be available. Elon Musk, who owns Twitter and now X, said that privacy issues like this are a right for everyone to be able to add content they like without fear of judgment.
This update is clearly favored by many users who often add content they like, but there are certainly those who oppose it. Paid users like influencers and content creators who usually pay attention to engagement from the number of likes will no longer be able to analyze the success rate of their posts in detail.
With this change, Elon Musk hopes that X can become a more conducive and safe community for all parties. Would you prefer the Likes feature to be private or remain publicly accessible? Don't forget to share the link to this article on your status!
