Apple Plans Accessory Manufacturing Plant in Bandung for AirPods Max Components

Apple is working to resume the sale of iPhone products in Indonesia by proposing the construction of an accessory manufacturing plant in Bandung. This plant is part of a proposal worth USD 100 million (around IDR 1.58 trillion) submitted to the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin). Kemenperin spokesperson, Febri Hendri Antoni Arif, revealed which accessories Apple plans to produce at the Bandung plant.

Febri explained that PT Apple Indonesia intends to produce the Mesh component for the AirPods Max starting in July 2025, which will be part of Apple’s global value chain. The Mesh component refers to the ear cushion for the AirPods Max headset, which will be manufactured at the Bandung facility.

What is AirPods Max?

AirPods Max is Apple’s first over-ear wireless headphone. This product has been available in Indonesia since April 2021. The design includes adjustable over-ear cups to fit the user’s head size, and the ear cushions are made with a magnetic steel frame. These cushions are removable, making it easier to clean them when they get dirty.

The ear cushions are the components that Apple plans to produce in its upcoming Bandung factory. Currently, AirPods Max is sold through authorized distributors in Indonesia with a price tag of IDR 8,999,000. The product is available in five color options: Green, Pink, Silver, Space Grey, and Sky Blue.
